There was sort of the understanding that we were never going to be considered amongst the guitar gods, that we were not good enough.Nobody looking at us now is going "oh yeah the songs are boring" and if they are then I'm like "then you write ' Boyfriend' if you think it's so simple and easy!!It's much easier for me to defend our position in pop music than it ever was in rock music.Now it's really easy to look back and be like "well they were fucking wrong! And some of that was self-imposed and insecurity but one thing I really like about pop music is it feels like there are less rules.It's sort of a wild west, you can kind of do whatever you want...unlike the national scene and the indie rock scene.
